Private Equity investments down by 50% in Q3’16

Although Q3’16 recorded US $3.2 billion in investments across 125 deals, it is 50 per cent lower than the Q3’15 figures which touched an all time high of US $6.5 billion in investments across 224 deals

Though a vast majority of the Indian population lives in the rural and semi-urban areas of the country, these places remain largely underserved. Regional and cultural differences make it a complex proposition to penetrate this segment since scalability is not automatic – that is, what works in one region may not work in another, making it a risky experiment each time. This apart, the expertise to service these markets is also not readily available to companies. Despite these challenges, there are several organisations that have taken their products and services to the rural segments, knowing well that the need to bring rural India up to speed is critical for balanced economic growth as well as their personal growth. We look at some of the products and service providers, and their experiences in catering to the rural markets.
